Plan B

On Friday my group officially established that if we do not hear back by this week we will need to move forward with our plan B. I am writing today to thoroughly explain our plan B. In the last blog post, I discussed how my group definitely wants to stick with the topic of dance because that is what we are the most passionate about, and feel that it will make the most interesting documentary. I also attached a link to a documentary Janey and I made last quarter which we were super proud of. When coming up with a theme for our documentary this time around since we knew we wanted to work around dance we feared it would be too similar to the previous one we made.  We decided to try and go for the collegic dance approach so that it would be completely different than what we did before. If that plan doesn't go through we think we have another idea that is way different than our first doc. In our first documentary, we discussed how Performace edge is dealing with the pandemic in-house. The idea we have now is to show people what a dance competition is really like. People who are not in the dance world have really only been exposed to dance competitions through the TV show Dance Moms. The thing is with that show is that it is very very very inaccurate of what a dance competition is. The studio shown in Dance Moms is banned from the most popular dance competitions for altering their rankings on TV and in the later seasons was forced to go to competitions with studios that were not so great, forcing them to win everything. The first major thing that Dance Moms changes are that dance teachers are not mean and yelling at their kids 24/7, at Performance Edge students have very good relations with their teachers. Another major difference between the show and the studio we're focusing on is the show has a team of about 6 girls whereas our studio has 100+ girls who compete. By them only having 6 girls they only compete in the solo and small group category whereas PEDC competes in all categories: solo, duet/trio, small group, large group, mini line, and grand line. There are many major differences to discuss but I want to leave off with the biggest misconception studios do not have a pyramid that ranks each dancer based on their performance that is mentally abusive and wrong. In my next blog, I will include more things that Dance Moms does that our documentary will debunk.
