How we chose the universities

For a refresher this is what my group decided on for our series' episodes order:

1. University of Miami Sunsations 
2. University of Florida Dazzlers
3. Florida State Golden Girls
4. Arizona State Sundevils Dance Team
5. University of Minnesota Dance Team
6. Penn State Lionettes 

The University of Miami and Florida State University are in the ACC (Atlantic Coastal conference), the University of Florida is in the SEC (Southeastern Conference), Penn State and the University of Minnesota are in the BIG 10, and Arizona State University is in the Pac-12 (pacific 12) conference. We decided to go with schools only in the power five conferences. Although "power five" is not acknowledged as an official term by the NCAA the conferences included are Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, Pac-12 Conference, and Southeastern Conference (SEC). Power five conference got their name from college football because teams from those conferences were the only ones to qualify for the bowls/playoffs and the name has just stuck. 

As for how we chose the exact schools from the conferences was a little bit more research. First, we decided to include the 3 most reputable schools in Florida: the University of Florida, Florida State University, and of course the University of Miami. Then for choosing the other 3 schools we had a tough time. There are so many good college dance teams in the Power 5 conferences that my group had long discussions of which ones to choose. Upon doing lots of research we landed on an article written by Dance Spirit. We used the article below to help us chose which colleges to include. The article comes from a very popular source in the dance world, every dancer strives to be on the cover of their magazine. The article included many great dance teams, some from a power 5 some not. The teams that stuck out the most to us were Arizona State, the University of Minnesota, and Penn State University.

Although doing all this research on teams we are not actually filming on seems like I waste of time, I feel it will help our group really learn the nature of collegic dance. I also believe that research about other school's teams will help us come up with questions that will reflect why we chose the Univerity of Miami dance team and what makes them stand out from every other team.
