Today my group finalized the structure for our docuseries and their episodes. We first needed to decide exactly what we want to discuss in the excerpt and how it would tie into a series. Then we needed to research and conclude how many episodes we wanted it to be. We went on the streaming services Netflix and Dinsey+ to look at documentaries similar to ours and saw how many episodes they incorporated. First, we looked at shows about dance, On Pointe on Disney+ had 6 episodes and the show We Speak Dance on Netflix had 5 episodes. Then we looked at more college athletic shows, Cheer on Netflix had 6 episodes and Last Chance U had about 8 episodes a season. We couldn't find a documentary that is dance/college athletic-related with the structure that we have so we decided to also look at docuseries that may not be the same topic but structure. The structure we have is instead of focusing on just one college for every episode we are focusing on a different college dance team every episode. I remembered that when learning about documentaries at the beginning of the school year we had to watch some docuseries in our media studies class on Netflix that follow a similar structure we are planning to do: Ugly Delicious and Abstract. Ugly Delicious focuses on a different food item episode and has 8 episodes in the first season and 4 in the second. Abstract is a show that focuses on a different person each episode and their creative ventures, it has 8 episodes in the first season and 6 in the second. We looked at other series too but the ones mentioned were the more persuasive in our final decision. We decided on a one-season docuseries that includes 6 episodes. Below I have listed the Universities we selected and the order they will be in.
Series order:
1. University of Miami Sunsations
2. University of Florida Dazzlers
3. Florida State Golden Girls
4. Arizona State Sundevils Dance Team
5. University of Minnesota Dance Team
6. Penn State Lionettes
