Representation Analysis

In the advertisement for Axe a group of young, around 20 years old, females are shown running towards an attractive white man spraying cologne. These women are represented by all different ethnicities and races, but are all dressed in tiny bikinis and have very skinny bodies. This brings an appeal to men seeing a mass amount of attractive, not fully clothed women run towards a single male because of his Axe scent. This is not a fair representation of women though, it only shows one body type, a model like figure. This ad will most probably only appeal to the younger population of straight males. It does not convey reality through their representation.

In contrast the H&M advertisement has a wide range of diversity. It ranges from different ages of a child all the way to "someone over 40". It has all body types shown as well as different religions and sexualities. This advertisement also shows it is okay to break gender roles and dress how ever one wants. This advertisement is overall appealing to everyone and represents as many different types of people it can. It makes the clothes seem like any and everyone can buy and wear this brand.
